Top Ten Favorite TV Shows

♥ Supernatural – My love affair with the Winchesters started during my freshman year of college when I was binge watching entire seasons of it instead of studying for my chemistry exams (it was a pretty popular topic for my LiveJournal posts back then too).  I still watch every episode but I’m not quite as in to it as I used to be; I was in love with the original five-season arc, particularly the dark and gritty feel of the early days.  Either way, I’m gonna be a Dean girl until the end (that girl in the .gif is totally me).

♥ From Dusk till Dawn – I was obsessed with this show before I had even seen an episode and once I was able to watch it I binge watched the entire first season in two days (and have done that repeatedly ever since).  It’s based on the 1996 Robert Rodriguez movie of the same name but is far less campy; DJ Cotrona and Zane Holtz give the Gecko brothers so much more depth than George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino were able to.

♥ The Walking Dead – As I’ve mentioned before, zombies are sort of my thing so this one is an obvious favorite.  It’s also the only show that I’m currently watching that I absolutely have to watch as it airs, do not get between me and my television on Sunday nights this fall.

HAVEN nathan & audrey♥ Haven – I started watching this one on a whim when it first started airing on SyFy and I’ve been in love ever since.  It’s inspired by Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid and has a pretty interesting take on the supernatural-themed drama (which I’m obviously a fan of).

♥ Sons of Anarchy – I love each and every one of the characters on this show, even the ones I love to hate (Clay, anyone?).  This show is also one of the few that makes me cry pretty frequently, I couldn’t tell you why, but it does.

♥ The 100 – It’s pretty hit or miss with me when it comes to shows on The CW, but this one was definitely a hit.  I got really drawn in to the premise of the show at first, then fell in love with the characters, now I’m dying to get my hands on a copy of the book that it was inspired by.

Game of Thrones – Is there anyone out there who doesn’t like this show?  Having read some of the series I can say that there are definitely some on point portrayals of George R.R. Martin’s characters going on in this show and I am always impressed by the on-screen adaptations of some of my favorite scenes (and disappointed by the omission of some of my other favorites, but we can’t have it all).

♥ Friday Night Lights – Loved the book, loved the movie, loved the show. ❤

♥ True Blood – I have yet to pick up any of the books even though I’m in love with this show, hopefully I’ll be able to remedy that soon. I’ll also say that I definitely became more of a fan once Season 3 started because werewolves, specifically Alcide (don’t talk to me 😥 )…I’d like to have Joe Manganiello on my TV at all times.

♥ Star Trek: The Original Series – I love this show because it’s absolutely hilarious and also one of the most aesthetically pleasing things ever.  All those primary colors plus 1960s film technology?  Beautiful. I used to get yelled at for DVRing too many episodes when they would air re-runs on PBS.

Honorable mentions go out to SuitsLeverageFirefly, Teen Wolf (ugh…so much love/hate), and every incarnation of Law & Order ever made.

This past week has been a long one, so let’s pretend that I didn’t have to back-date this because I totally failed to schedule it for Tuesday, okay?

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

Emily @ Books and Cleverness was so sweet to nominate me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award recently even though I’m just getting started and still finding my way in the book blogging world.  So, thank you thank you darling, I’m so glad that you’re liking my blog so far (and think others will like it too)!  Everyone should go follow Emily, her reviews are always making me add things to my TBR list and her blog is just super fun to scroll through because it’s so pretty!

The Award Rules:

  1. Thank and link the amazing person who nominated you.
  2. List the rules and display the award.

Seven Facts About Me:

  1. I have two cats, neither of them have tails and their names are Lex and Luthor (but I’m totally a Marvel girl)
  2. I read constantly – books, magazines, news articles, instruction manuals, textbooks, obituaries, Supreme Court dissenting opinions, I really read everything
  3. I have a very deep love for American muscle cars (and the fictional boys who drive them – Dean Winchester anyone?)
  4. I will read/watch anything that has dragons in it – I was totally “that girl” who was obsessed with dragons as a kid (who am I kidding, I’m definitely still that girl)
  5. I have a coffee problem, there are at least three different Starbucks locations where I have a favorite barista who knows me by name and drink order
  6. I watch Jeopardy! almost every night with my mom, I love trivia shows and games because they make the endless amount of facts rolling around in my head seem actually useful
  7. I love sending and receiving cute handwritten letters in the mail, I find all sorts of reasons to send little notes to people and I’d love to have a pen pal or two (or three!)

My Nominations:

Okay, since I’m still very new to this and have yet to make a whole lot of book blog friends I’m not going to nominate anyone quite yet.  But since I am all about sharing the blog love there will definitely be an addendum post in the future once I have explored a little more and found some awesome blogs to nominate!

Another big thank you to Emily for the nomination!  Being so new to blogging it definitely means a lot that someone is liking what I’ve had to say so far! ❤

The Book Blogger Test

I was tagged to do this by Ashley @ Falling Down the Book Hole (she’s been pointing me in the direction of all sorts of neat things to help me get my blog started) and I thought it would be a great way to introduce myself!

What are your top three book pet hates?

  1. Excessive internal dialogue – every once in a while I stumble across a book where the main character/narrator just has so much to say, to themselves.  Most books find a nice balance between showing and telling in regards to characters’ reactions, but when they go overboard on the telling I eventually start to imagine that the characters are muttering all of their thoughts out loud to themselves and that’s probably not what the authors were going for.
  2. Cover changes in a series – I just want all of my book shelves to look pretty okay!  For example, I have the First Edition Hardcover of Jonathan Stroud’s The Amulet of Samarkand (the first book in the Bartimaeus Trilogy), it’s a nice cover, nothing too exceptional, but when the the second two books came out they changed the covers.  Now the first book sits next to the other two all sad and un-matching.  Super frustrating.
  3. Long periods of time between book releases – this is definitely just a product of me being an extremely impatient person.  I don’t like to wait for things, and I especially don’t like to wait for things I know I’m going to love, but wait I will (totally side-eyeing George R.R. Martin right now).

Describe your perfect reading spot:
My absolute favorite place to read is outside or outside-adjacent.  I’ve done a lot of reading laying out on my deck in the sun, curled up in a chair in the front room of the cabin with all the windows wide open, even out on the dock in the early morning with a cup of coffee.  There’s just something about nature and reading, they’re both wonderful, but they’re even better when enjoyed together.

Tell us three book confessions:

  1. I went to a midnight release party for Breaking Dawn with my best friend from high school at our local Borders, which is a whole lot less embarrassing now than I thought it was back then (but clearly I wasn’t embarrassed enough to not go).
  2.  I own multiple versions/editions of most of Tolkien’s works, I have a problem.
  3. I have a whole lot of love for coffee table books.  My future home won’t need an actual coffee table, I’ll just build one out of my coffee table book collection.

When was the last time you cried during a book?
Probably during my re-read of a couple of Tamora Pierce’s Tortall series earlier this year.  I am extremely attached to her characters so I tend to get a little caught up in their lives no matter how many times I read the books.  I’m not usually one to cry during books, but I will say that the one time I was surprised in to tears was when I read Alexandra Fuller’s The Legend of Colton H. Bryant, not my typical read but an excellent one all the same.

How many books are on your bedside table?
Fifteen.  Holy crap, that’s kind of a lot.  There are also two more on/in my bed, I tend to stash my current reads under my pillows.

What is your favorite snack to eat while reading?
I’m not much for snacking and reading, but I am definitely a fan of curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee (preferably iced now that summer has finally arrived).

Name three books you would recommend to everyone:

  1. Into the Wild by John Krakauer [x] – I felt an extremely strong connection to this book the first time I read it, I can’t say exactly why but it is definitely an enlightening read.
  2. Squire by Tamora Pierce [x] – I’m really recommending the entire Protector of the Small series here, but this is the third book and my absolute favorite.
  3. The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle [x] – I’ve considered this to be one of my favorite books for a very long time, it’s just a solid good read.  I also spent a lot of time watching the TV show that was inspired by it when I was younger (I’m probably the only person on the planet who owns every season of that show on DVD).

Write how much books mean to you in just three words:
Best Friends Forever – is that cheesy?  That’s totally cheesy.

What is your biggest reading secret?
Hmm, I think I’ll just keep on keeping that one to myself.

I’m tagging:
Oh no!  I’m too shiny new to the book blogging world to know who to tag – help a girl out and recommend your favorite book blogs? That way I’ll have plenty of people to tag next time around!
